NO, NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS NECKLACE. I found the snake dead on the side of the road, I promise you. Of anyone, I would be the last person to harm a gnat. I've actually had this made for a very long time, though I've just now posted it. It is the vertebrae of a southern copperhead snake (Agkistrodon contortrix contortrix) intricately glued into shape after all the soft tissue was dissolved for months in a jar with a bleach and water solution. Each vertebra was refitted by hand, as was the skull (with the snake's skeletal chart handy ;3 ) and shaped to the curvature of my neck. It's stiff, so it could fit few people other than me. The black cord is strung through the empty spinal cord holes in each vertebra, latching in the back. It's not comfortable for long-term wear, but it's a pretty badass accessory, since snakes are my favorite animals ;3
NOTE: Neither I nor my brother do custom work. Our crafts are strictly for our own use and are unfortunately not for sale. We have neither the time, money, nor patience to make these crafts a continuous job.
Well this just blew my mind. That sounds like so much effort and attention, I would never have the patience to do anything that could even come close to how badass this is.
Thanks! I hated to see that beautiful creature dead, though. I love snakes so much. I really should have let ants eat away the flesh instead of soaking it off in alcohol. Thanks for seeing the artistry in it <3
It kind of reminds me of when I was little, and I was playing with the neighbor boys. They found a dead baby rattler, so we took it and sort of honored it by coming up with an entire snake related culture. It was weird, but interesting.
